Employees
As of 1/1/09, MEP employed more than 100 providers dedicated to practicing excellence in emergency medicine.
Expertise
MEP employs the most board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians in the state of Maryland. At Shady Grove, MEP operates a dedicated 24-hour pediatric emergency department with a volume of over 24,000 visits. Our expertise in the field allows MEP to offer peer oversight and didactic feedback to all MEP providers. Pediatric emergency specialists attend all peer review meetings at every campus and assist in development of treatment pathways for high-volume pediatric conditions.
Certifications:
- All MEP physicians practicing in the emergency department are board certified in emergency or pediatric emergency medicine with the exception of those providers who were offered continued employment from the prior contract holder (e.g., St. Mary’s and Western Maryland Health System).
- MEP’s pediatric emergency medicine group consists of the highest number of fellowship-trained pediatric emergency physicians in the state of Maryland.
- MEP recruits only residency-trained, board-certified/eligible emergency/pediatric emergency specialists for openings in their EDs.
- MEP has developed and implemented effective mentoring and coaching programs (unique in medicine) to achieve continuing improvement in clinical care, service performance and patient satisfaction.
Four-Prong Quality Program to ensure competency and quality:
1. Surveys
MEP performs monthly patient satisfaction surveys and annual staff 360 surveys to assess quality of care and potential areas for improvement.
2. Web QI
Developed by MEP, this unique online tool allows providers to give quarterly, targeted feedback to each other about quality and efficiency of care.
3. Peer Review
Every other month, providers review selected charts to provide vigorous and honest feedback about the method of care and to offer didactic education.
4. Coaching
Twice a year, providers meet with the department chair to evaluate results from Web QI, surveys, peer reviews and other comments, and to receive guidance on how to improve their performance.
